How often should you be visiting the vet if there's nothing visibly wrong with your pet?

Just like how humans need regular doctor visits, so do our pets! Regular vet visits are crucial for keeping our pets healthy, even when they may seem perfectly fine. Unlike humans, our pets can't communicate with us how they feel, that's why having them looked at even when they seem fine is important. These check-ups can uncover hidden health issues early on, which can be life saving.

The number of visits your pet needs can vary depending on their age, type, breed, and specific health requirements. Here’s a rule-of-thumb guide:

  • Puppies/kittens: In their first year, young pets need to see the vet every 3-4 weeks for vaccines, deworming, and general health assessments. Just like human babies!
  • Adult pets: Once your furry friend is all grown up, an annual check-up is usually enough. These visits typically include a full physical exam, vaccinations, parasite control, a dental check, and any needed lab tests. These visits help your vet keep an eye on the overall health and well being of your pet.
  • Senior pets: Older pets have different needs and may face age-related issues like arthritis or dental problems. Depending on their age and health, your vet might suggest visits twice a year or more to help manage these conditions and keep them comfortable.

These are just general rules, though. Your vet might recommend a different schedule based on what your pets specific needs. Also, keep an eye out for any unusual behavior or changes in your pet's eating, drinking, weight, or overall demeanor. As its hard for our pets to let us know when something is wrong, they do normally try their best. If something seems off, it's always a good idea to call your vet and make an appointment. Better safe than sorry when it comes to our furry babies.

Do vets offer monthly subscription services?

Yes, some veterinary clinics and hospitals offer monthly subscription services, often referred to as wellness plans or preventive care plans. These plans are designed to provide comprehensive veterinary care for your pet on a regular basis while spreading out the cost over monthly payments. The services covered under a veterinary subscription plan can vary from one practice to another, but they typically include essential preventive care like vaccinations, wellness checks, parasite prevention, and even dental cleanings. Some plans might also throw in perks like discounts on other services or priority booking.

Opting for a subscription service can be a smart choice if you prefer to spread out the costs of routine care instead of paying all at once during each visit. These plans not only help manage veterinary expenses (which we all know are costly) but also ensure that your pet's health is regularly monitored and maintained.

If you're considering a subscription or wellness plan for your pet, the best starting point is to contact local veterinary clinics or hospitals. They can give you detailed information about the plans they offer, including what's included and the pricing. This way, you can compare your options and select a plan that suits both your pet’s needs and your budget.
